The Auspicious Dragon

Qizitou is a traditional settlement in Shuishang Township. The ancestors used to weave straw sandals with rice stalks after harvest, making it a settlement supplying straw sandals to the working residents in the coastal and mountain areas. In recent years, based on “The Legend of Dragon Veins” from the local “Dragon Well,” the community has staged the folk art and drama performances such as drum dance and parade formation, matchmaker dance, and fan dance to show the villagers’ vitality.
Based on the residents’ personality of amusing themselves and others and the lively performance of “The Legend of Dragon Veins,” the work integrates the elders’ optimistic energy of “live and learn” and their effort to make every show perfect.

In the workshop, artist Lo Yuan-hung brought two lion dance metal frames, pre-made in his studio, and guided community members in weaving the lion’s fur patterns using fabric ropes. The participants applied their skills from weaving straw sandals or knitting yarn, adapting them to the task, while frequently discussing color and pattern combinations. The final result, two small woven lion figures with warm tones as the base, looked like two vibrant sunflowers full of energy!
